Huber Holiday House-build brings joy to Atlanta Habitat family

House Dedication is December 15

This holiday is a season of gratitude for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity homebuyer Craig Strickland and his family as they team up with the J.M. Huber Corporation (Huber) to build the Strickland’s first home.

“This is a Christmas and New Year’s gift at the same time,” says Strickland. “Although we are working on the house ourselves, it is an awesome gift to have the Huber volunteers to help us. We are overwhelmed with joy.”

Employees from Huber’s offices and plants in Atlanta, Commerce, Fairmount, Kennesaw, Marble Hill and Warner Robins, Georgia are joining the Strickland’s in building their four-bedroom house in Atlanta’s Center Hill neighborhood.

Strickland is married, has one son, and works in construction. He is learning something new from Huber employee-volunteers every Saturday. “From the siding installation to roofing, I’m seeing some of the best new material you can use to build a house.”

The Huber Holiday House is constructed using Huber Engineered Woods products, including AdvanTech® subfloor assembly products for a quiet, stiff floor, and ZIP System® roof and wall products for an easy-to-install, high-performance building enclosure. Using Huber Engineered building materials adds to the affordable, high-quality construction of this Atlanta Habitat home.

Huber’s sponsorship is part of a new, national strategic partnership with Habitat for Humanity, and the first house-build for the 135-year-old, family-owned company in Atlanta. Its sponsorship helps Atlanta Habitat offset the cost of construction and materials, thus making homeownership affordable to low-income families who may not qualify for a conventional mortgage. This partnership represents the company’s commitment to donate 1 percent of its net income annually to nonprofit organizations.

Atlanta Habitat’s first-time homebuyer program requires homebuyers to complete 250 hours of sweat-equity in constructing their homes and pay an affordable, 30-year mortgage loan.

“It has been a sincere pleasure for our employees to participate in helping the Strickland family build their first home in partnership with Habitat for Humanity,” Mike Marberry, president & CEO of Huber, says. “Habitat’s vision that everyone needs a decent place to live aligns very closely with the Huber Principle of Respect for People, which drives how our employees behave, both at work and in our communities.”

This holiday-build caps off a record-breaking year for Atlanta largest nonprofit homebuilder.

“We are thrilled to have Huber building a home for a family to enjoy for holidays to come. Their support also benefits our neighborhood revitalization strategy by adding quality homes to the community,” says Lisa Y. Gordon, president and CEO of Atlanta Habitat. “This is our 43rd new home that Atlanta Habitat homebuyers and volunteers have built this year. It brings us to another record-breaking year of serving 164 new families like the Strickland’s.”

The Huber team will join the Strickland’s for their house dedication at noon, Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018.
